Installation Requirements

This guide will walk you through the requirements for supporting the Onboard's Edge software on your building's IP network.

🗄️ Virtualization Requirements

The Onboard Edge Node supports the following x86-based virtualization platforms:

  • VMware
    • ESXi 7.0 U2 (7.0.2) or later
    • Fusion 12.2.x or later
    • Workstation PRO/Player 16.2.x or later

Not Officially Supported (Untested)

These hypervisors have not been validated. They may work but are not currently supported without additional packaging or testing:

  • VirtualBox
  • Proxmox
  • Microsoft Hyper-V

CPU Architecture

  • Supports X86_64
  • Edge Node does not support ARM

🖥️ Hardware Requirements

This is the machine where Onboard’s Edge Software will run. It is typically managed by your building’s IT/OT department. If not, you can use an external device like a mini PC, or even a raspberry-pi.

Minimum Hardware Requirements‍

These are the minimum specs required to run Onboard’s Edge Software reliably:Minimum system requirements:

  • 10 GB Storage 
  • 2 GB RAM 
  • 1 CPU Core
  • Ethernet port required if using external hardware 

Recommended Devices

Here are the recommended specifications to ensure smooth performance and compatibility.

  • Intel NUC Kit
  • ASUS NUC 14 Essential
  • Dell OptiPlex 3070 Micro
  • Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 Tiny Desktop
  • HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini
  • GEEKOM Mini PC

⚠️ Important:

  • Ensure BIOS is configured for “Always On” mode so the device powers on automatically after outages.
  • Physically label or sticker the device: “Do Not Unplug” to avoid accidental downtime.
