Reviewing Points Selection for Equipment

Selecting points for your equipment helps define which sensors, setpoints, or commands are associated with it. This step ensures points required for data collection are accurately associated with the corresponding equipment. Onboard’s AI automatically filters out irrelevant points from equipment and hides them by default. You can view them anytime by toggling the Hide Points with No Equip button on the Points tab. The Staging Interface helps you finalize point selection by reviewing and confirming that the right points are attached to each equipment, and removing any unwanted ones.

This involves two steps:

  1. Manage equipment-point associations
  2. Create virtual equipment (Optional)

Manage equipment-point associations

On Overview Tab

On the Overview tab, the Point Selection Interface is used for managing the points associated with each equipment. It is essential for adding or removing points to accurately model the equipment. To access the Point Selection Interface Click the EDIT POINTS button inside any equipment card.

Here’s how it works:

  • Equipment Details: It displays key information about the equipment/device for the selected points, helping you verify correct equipment-point associations. If points from more than one device are linked to the equipment, the equipment details box will display relevant information for all the devices.
  • Only Selected Toggle: This toggle option lets you switch between viewing all points in the building or only the points currently linked to the selected equipment. This view flexibility helps you identify the points that are already linked to the equipment, or find new points to add.
  • Filter Tools: Filter for specific points using attributes , such as Point Name, Device ID, or Device Programs. This helps narrow down your search when working with a large set of points.
  • Add/Remove Points: Select points to add them to the equipment or deselect points to remove them.
    • If you unlink a published point from a published equipment, it will be removed from the live building if it's not already published via another equipment.
    • Click Save and confirm the action
  • Hide Points with No Equip: This toggle is ON by default. It hides any unassigned or irrelevant points, helping you focus on the points that are actively mapped. Turn it off to view all points, including those not linked to any equipment.

‍

On Points Tab

On the Points tab, you can easily remove points from any equipment in bulk:

  1. Select the points you would like to disassociate from equipment
  2. Click on the Bulk Actions dropdown
  3. Choose Remove Points from Equip‍
  4. Confirm the action to remove the selected points from their associated equipment

If you remove a published point from the Points Tab, it will be removed from the live building and unmapped from any equipment it was associated with.

‍

Note: The action of removing points from an equipment will not delete the points, it simply clears their equipment mapping so you can reassign them or leave them unmapped.

Create Virtual Equipment (Optional)

Virtual Equipment refers to an equipment that contains points from more than one device in a building system. Virtual Equipment can be used for complex use cases, like a monitoring system that includes multiple fans, valves, or sensors. Or, it could simply be used for two equipment in the same zone that share a temperature sensor.

To add new equipment on the Overview Tab:

  1. Click on ADD EQUIPMENT and enter a name for the equipment
  2. Click Save and a new equipment will be created without any points
  3. Use the filter tools to locate the new equipment by name
  4. Click on Edit Points within the new equipment card to access the Point Selection Interface
  5. Select the points you wish to link to this new equipment
  6. Click Save to confirm the selection
